StudioJAED consists of a Purpose-built A/E/FS Team. Each member possesses unique talents and skills to creatively manage and solve the most complex and challenging architectural, engineering, and facilities related project.
Philip R. Conte, AIA, NCARB
Principal / CEO / President
Philip is StudioJAED's President and CEO. He has spearheaded the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) as an integral component of StudioJAED’s design capabilities. He has used his experience and expertise to oversee and manage numerous projects, from the simple to the complex. He is an active member of the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE) and has made presentations at both their Regional and International Conferences. Philip holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from Temple University and is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).
Brian M. Zigmond, P.E., C.E.M.
Principal / Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Brian is a Mechanical Engineer and Certified Energy Manager and is responsible for the management of the technical design for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building control systems. He has directed the design and has overseen construction for projects ranging from the replacement of mechanical and electrical systems to the construction of some of the largest buildings in the StudioJAED portfolio. His vast experience in energy conservation projects and energy auditing is applied to every StudioJAED project, resulting in some of the most energy efficient buildings in the Mid-Atlantic region. Brian holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware and maintains membership in both the Delaware Association of Professional Engineers (DAPE) and the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).
Beatrice L. Cook, CDA
Principal / Finance / Human Resource Director
Bea is a Certified Design Accountant responsible for the areas of finance, human resources, and administrative management.
In addition, she has been recognized for her active participation in the Society of Design Administration (SDA), on which she has served as the first President of the Delaware Chapter and as a National Board member.
Bea has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Wilmington University.
David T. Spangler, P.E.
Principal / IT Director
Dave brings mechanical engineering experience on a wide range of commercial, industrial, and educational projects to StudioJAED. His industrial experience includes hazardous production area ventilation and laboratory ventilation. His educational experience includes Indoor Air Quality remediation and a wide range of HVAC system applications, as well as life cycle costing analysis. In addition, Dave has participated in the management and assessment of nearly all of StudioJAED's nationwide facilities management assessment projects. Dave has a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree and a Master of Business Administration degree, both from the University of Delaware.
Pamela J. Babuca, ASID, IFMA, ALEP
Principal / Project Manager
Pamela is a planning professional with 20+ years’ experience in developing, implementing, and managing a diverse collection of facilities related solutions. She is a detail-oriented person with a strong background in leveraging technology to organize information. Pamela’s passion is to serve and enjoys assisting others develop stewardship-minded practices that improve the spaces and places in which we live and learn. In addition to her work at StudioJAED, Pam has served as Past President of A4LE Chesapeake Bay / Delaware Valley Chapter.
Mark Rinehart, CPE, ASPE
Principal / Construction Specialist
Mark Rinehart brings over 35 years of construction administration experience to StudioJAED. Mark has bolstered in-house estimating, quality assurance, quality control measures, and constructibility reviews. His extensive experience in the construciton industry includes estimating, architectural design, engineering, and interfacing with owners. Mark's skill set is present during project design, project management, material purchasing, subcontracting, invoicing, and scheduling. His responsibilies include cost estimating, construction administration, budgeting, quality control, and liaison with clients to maintain schedule and budget. Mark has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Delaware in Agricultural Engineering Technology.
Paul Guggenberger, AIA, NCARB, LEED™ AP
Principal / Project Manager
Paul brings over 26 years of experience in architectural design and project management for a broad range of projects both in new construction and renovation to the StudioJAED Team. His background includes the design and adaptive reuse of institutional, corporate, industrial, hospitality, and retail facilities throughout the tri-state area.
Paul holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Additionally, Paul is (LEED) Certified with a devotion to preservation.
David P. Mengers
Principal / Project Manager
With over 35 years of experience in regional and international A-E firms, David Mengers brings a combination of technical expertise, design acumen, and business development skills that enhance his managerial style. David develops positive work relationships with all his clients through consistent communication, flexibility, and responsiveness. David’s background includes design and adaptive reuse of educational, municipal, residential, and commercial facilities.
David implements a “One Team” approach to all his projects, where the client, the architect, the engineer, and the constructor work as one team. Outside the office, Dave enjoys music, sports,
and historic preservation.
Gabriel Cheung, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, ALEP
Principal
Gabriel Cheung has more than 18 years of experience in architectural design and project management. With that, his experience ranges from new construction and renovations in the public and private sectors. His expertise includes the entire spectrum of architectural services in the initial concepts through owner occupancy. Gabriel is an Accredited Learning Environmental Planner. He brings value to the practice of planning and design of educational environments.
Gabriel also excels in computer modeling and architectural visualization to enhance the client experience through photo-realistic renderings and virtual reality. Away from the office,
Gabe enjoys tennis, board games, and card games.
