Potstickers Asian Grill & Sushi Bar
Architectural and Engineering Services for New Restaurant Fit-Out
StudioJAED worked very closely with the Owners of Potstickers Asian Grill & Sushi Bar to create an upscale, metropolitan atmosphere for their new restaurant from conception to completion.
The Team was challenged to blend the spatial requirements of a shopping mall fit-out with the stand-alone upscale environment the Owners were looking to achieve. The design won the 2008 American Society of Interior Designers Silver Design Award. Several different types of materials were used for the restaurant’s finishes including an indoor rock wall featuring a waterfall, a rock wall with candlelit niches, and two indoor pagodas which house a sushi bar and a seating area. The different textures chosen for the interior draperies and the overall usage of warm colors also contribute to the sought after “feng shui” appeal of the eatery. Lighting was critical to the design of Potstickers due to the limited available light which enters the building. Five different types of lighting fixtures were incorporated into the design.
In fact, the StudioJAED Team was so eager to satisfy the Owners’ needs, that members personally hand-built ten different 2’x4’x4’ lanterns, which were hung from the ceiling in the restaurant. The lanterns were created from firerated opaque Plexiglas and hand-stained oak.
The varying height differential of the building required special attention with respect to the internal duct runs and the heating and cooling units, due to the fact that certain areas of restaurants can maintain high temperatures. The fit-out was designed to accommodate both the kitchen staff and the customers’ needs and comfort levels.
