Seaford High School
Additions & Improvements
StudioJAED is the architect and MEP engineer for significant phased additions and improvements to Seaford High School.
Additions include a 40+K SF addition to house the Delaware New Tech Academy, a 6+K SF addition to house a new culinary arts program, and a 2+K SF addition to house an expanding agriscience program were completed for the 2014 start of school.
Improvements to the existing building include a new sprinkler system, relocation of office areas, and a new boiler room designed around a Combined Cooling, Heating, & Power (CCHP) system. New stadium bleachers and press box were also completed. Construction, still underway on some of the renovations, is expected to be fully completed in the autumn of 2015.
Working with the staff, students, and community at Seaford, StudioJAED conducted a Visioning Charrette which resulted in detailed Educational Specifications. This was followed by a Concept Design Charrette which developed the floor plan, number and types of spaces, and "look" of the additions, both inside and out.
StudioJAED is especially proud to have been chosen for this commission because of the unique challenges of designing an educational facility to work well in support of the New Tech Curriculum's project-based learning approach.
