In 2003, the State of Arkansas appointed a Task Force to the Joint Committee on Educational Facilities to assess every school building throughout the state. The assessment was in response to a November 2002 Arkansas Supreme Court ruling that the State's educational facilities were inadequate and unequal. StudioJAED's Facilities Solutions Team was selected by to assess approximately 10 million square feet of facilities throughout northern Arkansas.
StudioJAED's unique experience with nationwide school assessments enabled us to work quickly and efficiently in accordance with the State's aggressive program implementation schedule. Each of our Assessment Teams met or exceeded the State's timelines to complete the work and averages an assessment of more than 10,000 square feet per day.
The accumulation of aging structures and deferred maintenance has created many emergencies in the schools during the last decade such as failing heating and cooling systems, deteriorating walls, inoperable windows, leaking roofs and more. The $9 million statewide assessment serves as the basis for decisions made by state lawmakers on more than $1 billion dollars of school upgrades and improvements.
